Reconditioning Rehabilitation Program
Mt Wilga's reconditioning rehabilitation program specialises in the rehabilitation of patients who have experienced an acute episode of illness or undergone a surgical procedure with subsequent deterioration in functional ability. Our aim is to provide specialised therapy to allow patients to maximize their functional improvement and achieve realistic goals
As a day patient your rehabilitation team will formulate a treatment plan for you based on your individual needs and from an assessment by a Rehabilitation Physician.
Day patients attend 1 – 5 times per week as deemed appropriate. Your program will be scheduled by the Day Rehabilitation Coordinator.
Your program may include the following services
- Exercise Physiology gym programs
- Occupational Therapist
- Recreation Therapy
- Falls prevention Program
You will be assessed by a physiotherapist with training and an interest in treating deconditioned patients. Your program will be aimed at:
- Restoring mobility and fitness
- Regaining optimum levels of independence
- Prescription of an ongoing exercise program
- Assessment and supply of mobility aids and equipment
Your Occupational Therapy program will assist you to regain your former level of independence and quality of life. Your program may include assessment and training in:
- Personal care activities
- Functional movement
- Household tasks
- Home safety assessment
- Prescription of aids to help you maintain your independence
The Recreation Therapy program provides gross motor, fine motor, cognitive and speech groups and an exercise group focussing on falls prevention to compliment patients' allied health interventions in orthopaedics, reconditioning and neurology. Recreation Therapy also provides ward walks for patients requiring further mobility training, and individualised leisure sessions for patients who are unable to participate in a group program.
Recreation Therapy is designed to meet patient needs through group based intervention with a leisure focus. Recreation Therapy can be accessed by both inpatient and day only clients.
