April Falls week

Apr 20, 2016

Mt Wilga Private Hospital will be participating in their annual “April Falls Day” events this month. The theme for 2016 April Falls Day is Share the Care: Falls Prevention is everyone’s business. Mt Wilga are committed to involving everyone in the care of the older person – with active participation of the older person, their family, carers, doctors, nurses and allied health staff - to prevent falls and keep older people safe.

Mrs Lorrie Mohsen, Acting CEO of Mt Wilga says “Falls prevention is something we take very seriously at Mt Wilga. Our rehabilitation team cares for many patients who may have had a fall inside their home, outside in the garden or out in the community, whether it be on public transport or at the local shopping centre.

Many of our patients will have surgery and will have a long stay in hospital to recover from their injuries. It is important to us that our patients are educated about falls prevention whilst they are in hospital to reduce their risk of falling again and being readmitted into hospital”.

From 4th to 8th April Mt Wilga will have an information stand at the main entrance of the hospital, providing information flyers and resources on how to reduce the risk of falling either in the home or out in the local community. Our inpatient allied health team will be running a talk for our patients and members of our Exercise Physiology and Occupational Therapy team will be visiting a local aged care facility to provide residents with information on falls prevention.

Community awareness and engagement on Falls Prevention matters can assist in ensuring the elderly members of our community can live safely and independently within their own homes for as long as possible. Mt Wilga has proudly provided services to the Hornsby community and surrounds for over 60 years.
