20 October 2011
Hornsby Shire Mayor Nick Berman, joined Ramsay Health Care’s Chief Operating Officer, Danny Sims and staff, Doctors and Managers to celebrate the official commencement of Mt Wilga’s new $5million development, at a turning the sod ceremony today.
Mt Wilga Private Hospital, Ramsay Health Care’s premier specialist Rehabilitation Hospital in Hornsby, will be transformed in the forthcoming months into a new and improved hospital campus with 39 new patient single rooms with en-suites, new therapy gyms and increased car parking.
Mt Wilga Private Hospital CEO Ms Jude Emmer said next month marks the 54th birthday of Mt Wilga’s opening as a rehabilitation hospital, then run by the Commonwealth. During its 54 years Mt Wilga has become a highly regarded national and internationally recognised Rehabilitation facility that provides a complex and comprehensive range of Rehabilitation services.
Ramsay Health Care has owned Mt Wilga since 2001 and during this time has demonstrated its commitment to providing much needed additional rehabilitation services to northern Sydney. This stage of development sees the hospital grow significantly and will ensure that its modern facilities serve the community well into the future.
Today’s ceremony coincides with the Hospital’s Staff Celebration Day, which recognises the leading team of rehabilitation physicians, therapists, nurses and support staff working at this hospital. “We are very excited about our next stage of growth and development which will enable our staff to continue to deliver quality care and treatments to our patients” Ms Emmer said.
Mt Wilga Private Hospital will be able to meet the increased demand for quality rehabilitation either as a day patient or an inpatient. The hospital offers a full range of services for patients recovering from a brain injury, spinal injury, an accident, post surgery or any condition where there is a need to improve tolerance, strength, pain relief or functional ability.
The hospital also offers hydrotherapy and physiotherapy services to the general public.
Construction is being managed by Akalan Projects and is expected to be completed in late April 2012.
